Hi! I'm Angela,

Nice to meet you

Hi, I’m Angela. I’m a licensed therapist with a background in social work and over 25 years of experience supporting people through complex, often deeply personal challenges. I work with folks recovering from high-demand religions or organizations, navigating controlling relationships, or feeling burned out from caregiving roles or high-stress professions.

My style is collaborative, steady, and curious. My clients are looking for a therapist who can hold space for complexity, growth, and sometimes uncertainty, and that’s exactly what I aim to provide. I truly love this work and feel honored every day to witness people reclaiming their voice, self-trust, and sense of possibility.

My training includes a year-long intensive in the VA’s Clinical Mindfulness protocol (VA CALM), advanced studies in clinical hypnosis, and evidence-based treatments that support recovery from religious trauma, burnout, and relational harm. I have training and experience working with people who’ve been harmed in relationships—as well as those who have used aggression and want to change. I also provide clinical supervision and training in Motivational Interviewing and communication skills.

Outside of the therapy room, I enjoy reading, hiking, walking (and the occasional very slow jog), traveling, and spending time with my dog (who believes he’s human) and my cat (who insists he’s a dog). I grew up in Iowa and have also lived in Ethiopia and the Los Angeles area. Over the years, I’ve worked in hospitals, clinics, restaurants, schools, nonprofits, cornfields, and a nursing home as a CNA. I’ve left a high-demand religious organization and reclaimed a some things along the way, including my sense of self, humor, and connection. I was once voted “weirdest dresser,” but these days I’m more often described as kind, honest, and occasionally funny.
